Broken Again
By Anita Licorish
Can you picture it?
Gashes and wounds
Scratches and scars
Bloodied and battered
The Body of the One
Taking a beating for
The likes of you and me
At Calvary
2000 + years ago
picture a face grimaced
With pain
Stained with hurt
Can you picture?
An instant replay of what seemed
Like long ago
But has returned
As the Body is again broken
Holes in hands
Thorns in head
Holes in feet
And body bled
Bruised face of the bride
With holes in her side
Broken
By those who inhabit
The place of worship and praise
In a daze, a haze
Of emotions
Not realizing the damage done
To one another
As they leave the worship place
Going, going, gone!
Into familiarity
Chastisement
Hurt
Shame
Poured upon one another
As fingers point at the other
Oh the pain!
He must feel to see His Body
Scattered, shattered
From within
Broken again
How sad a countenance
To look down and see
The Body parts apart
Separated
Not on one accord
Disregarding our Lord
2000+7 years of
Dissension in the midst
No attention given to the One
Whose gashes and wounds
Scratches and scars
Are seen upon His face
As His Body is broken again
